Kenneth Lance Johnson, or One Dog as he was called, played outfield for the Mets for 2 seasons, in 1996 and half of 1997.
However, during his time, his presence was felt, especially in the '96 campaign. He was the Mets only All-Star besides Todd Hundley. He finished the season with 227 hits, a .333 BA and 50 steals, but perhaps most impressive was the mere 40 strikeouts in almost 700 at-bats. He only missed 2 games the entire year.
In 1996, Johnson played in an outfield consisting of himself along with Bernard Gilkey and an Alex Ochoa/Carl Everett combination.
He was signed as a free agent in '95 and was traded to the Cubs in an important trade in which he was dealt, in addition to minor leaguers Manny Alexander and Mark Clark for Brian McRae, Mel Rojas and Turk Wendell.
Johnson played from 1987-2000, for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees, a total of 5 teams in 14 seasons.
...this was a solid player. the mets would of been smart to hang on to this guy. his '96 season was great...
