Tony Tarasco was a backup outfielder for the Mets for only one year; in 2002.
Tarasco, who backed up the outfield of Roger Cedeno, Timo Perez and Jeromy Burnitz, had 6 homers and 15 runs batted in while batting .250 in 96 at-bats for the season.
Tarasco was born in New York City and was found out to be part of the infamous Crips gang. Tarasco was also famous for having young fan Jeffrey Maier rob him of Derek Jeter's "home run" in the 1996 World Series.
He was drafted by the Braves in 1988 and was acquired by the Mets by way of free agency in 2001 after taking two years off of playing baseball.
Tarasco played 8 years with teams such as the Braves, Expos, Orioles, Yankees and Mets; a total of five teams.
...tarasco was a decent player...had to love the dreads...
