Do you remember Dennis Cook?

He was drafted in 1983 by the San Diego Padres and was acquired by the Mets in 1997 from the Marlins in a trade with Fletcher Bates and Scott Comer (who?).

The 185 lb. Texan had a 25-13 record with the Mets in the 3 1/2 year stay he had in Flushing, with a 3.96 ERA.

Cook was in the bullpen as a setup man for closer John Franco along with Turk Wendell, who he was eventually traded with to the Phillies for Bruce Chen, and middle relievers Mel Rojas and Greg McMichael

Cook was famous for repeatedly rubbing the seams of the ball to get a better grip on it.  Cook had his best seasons in his stint with with the Mets, and also played for the Giants, Phillies (twice), Dodgers, White Sox, Indians, Rangers, Marlins, and Angels; a total of nine different teams.
