Due to bandwidth issues and this sie never really getting off the ground, it is in my best interest to hang up this site.
Smokin Joe may or may not take over, but I want to thank any of you have read this site for your support. Keep in touch, as I will most likely start a new blog in the upcoming months. Matt Hinrichs Monday, July 16

Moises Alou hit a home run yesterday in Rookie ball.
More importantly, he played baseball for the first time since the invention of this. And that's all I have to say.

If anyone has flipped on ESPN recently, they may have seen the Mexican sports moment thing they've been serving lately. It's a minute or so of a Latino woman giving a quick glance at the Mexican sports and other sports involving hispanic decendants. Perhaps I am alone here, but does this seem like a thing they had to do and just followed the guidelines very loose? The woman speaks in English, which I think defeats the whole purpose, and it lasts like one minute. If your going to explain the sports of our close neighbor, how can it take just a minute? That has me mad. Honestly, Sportscenter already does that. The most Spanish thing about it is the woman. Please chime in.

The Mets win 2-1 tonight, after a great ceremony for Ralph Kiner. Lastings Milledge drove in the winning run for Glavine to get his 298th win, Billy Wagner got the save. Early on in the game we witnessed a new Met killer emerge, and his name Brandon Phillips. His homer put the Reds up 1-0 in the early going. Saturday, July 14

As the Mets lost tonight, the Yanks Here is a taste of the bumbling he fed the media. "You really have to let go of the final score because of a lot of times you can't control it. You can only control what you can control, and that's all based on effort,...... "I have no trouble sleeping tonight, other than the final score." okay, so lemme get this straight. you can't control the final score? so then why do we not like it when our team fails to score, or when a closer blows a save to control a score? I courtsy to you Joe. But first tell me two things, why are you "have no trouble sleeping tonight, other than the final score" if you let go of the final score, do you have multiple personalities? And next, tell me where you learned to publicaly speak, I'm having trouble lately talking like a dumb ass. Next Joe got a hit from the new mr. controversy Gary Sheffield. Gary accused the Yankees of being a team that treats the black players much differantly, stating that black players would be called out in front of the team, while whites were called into the office. Torre said "I just don't even want to answer those types of questions because I feel comfort not answering," it seems like everytime he talks I lose IQ pts. Sheffield said this about his comments- "Whether you like it or not I'm going to answer." I guess you weren't the type of guy to hold on to dates that long. Hey Shef, some girl needs to know if her outfit makes her look fat

Ricky Henderson will be taking over the first base duties for the Mets as Howard Johnson will take over for the fired Rick Down at hitting coach. Personally I think this move is alot better as Hojo might be a little better at relating to the players, having been there for longer than Ricky. Ricky also was known for not hussling to first too much and that way he's a little less vocal in that department. OH MAMMA THATS ALOTA BOLDS!!

The Red Sox have announced a plan to elect a President of their fans. This all seems good and friendly, but to become a cnndidate you must first pay a $15 charge to become part of the Red Sox nation, then announce your candidacy wait a minute, to become a fan you need to pay 15 bucks??? Current temporary president is former Sock Jerry Remy. People running include celebrities, former players, and regular fans. the winner will get benifits including Red Sox tickets, the use of a Fenway Park suite, a trip to Spring Training, and they will also deliver a first pitch at a 2008 home game, and recieve a blog provided by the team. I'm wondering a couple of things, first why Remy as your Temp. Then- why have all these perks for a celebrity or former player, they don't have the money for it? Lets just hope we don't have to pay a tax on our loyalty to being a fan, and....... I say we vote in a Red Sox Killer, preferiably a Met, perhaps MOOOOOOOKIE! Thursday, July 12

The box score from tonight's 3-2 victory by the Mets over the Reds.
El Duque and the bullpen set down 18 straight before a ninth inning single by Brandon Phillips. Billy Wagner picks up another save, as the Reds had the tying run in position with Phillips, but on a grounder to Jose Reyes he was picked off in a rundown. Mets move back to 10 games over .500 with today's victory.

I bet you could tell me before the season even started that the Mets would be buyers rather than sellers at the trading deadline.
But if you had any doubts in your mind about the subject, well, this All-Star break had to have changed a lot of theose doubts. The bevvy of moves that Omar Minaya has made in the past 24 hours show that he is in this season to win it. Whether he acquires a corner outfield bat or a reliever, a starter perhaps, I am now confident that Omar and the Wilpons will definitely be agressive when July 31st rolls around.

In what I like to call a "Little Omar Move", such as with signing Endy Chavez, the Mets have signed former Met Marlon Anderson to their minor league system, and will most likely called up to play the role of David Newhan's replacement.
Anderson was one of the best pinch-hitters the Mets have ever had in recent years, right up there with Lenny Harris and Tony Clark. You may remember in 2005 Marlon Anderson became one of the few Mets to ever hit an inside-the-park home run, against the Angels. I like the moves.

Mets (48-39) vs Reds (36-52) Orlando Hernandez (4-4 3.22) vs Bronson Arroyo (3-9 4.84) The Reds have been a pesky team for El Duque, as the have an average above .300 against him. Unfortunately Arroyo has faired much better, as he owned the Mets last year, only surrendering 2 runs in 17 Inn. Lineups- Mets
Reds

Julio Franco has been designated for assignment! Excuse me while I change my pants as I crapped myself in pure shock. Personally I did not see this coming at all, and I am still jumping for joy while writing this, I know, I'm a great freestyle writer. Perhaps the Mets are going to be signing Henderson or Kiner to fill his spot.

I now have the power to contribute for the first time, and in short I feel like God with a keyboard. When I first saw the Brogna Blog, then known as Mams Mets, I wondered whether or not it had staying power. Back then I was merely a blog reader and not one to comment much. I grew into the blogger you read today, but sadly watched this blog lose some contributers, and key commenters. So lets create some traffic here, and I'll help, after all I'm the straw that stirs the drink. Wednesday, July 11

The Mets have fired hitting coach Rick Down and replaced him with Rickey Henderson, according to WFAN and other various sources.
That's right, Rickey Fucking Henderson. I've been crying for Down to be gone for a long time. He doesn't seem to very vocal from what I've seen for the past few years watching Mets games, although you can't argue with last year's results. I hope Rickey doesn't get too cocky with the Mets. But I am on the record for being 100% for this move.

Tony La Russa
had a long night, a long week for that matter. A few long plane rides,
bus rides etc. The guy had to have a few drinks to take the edge off.
The ensuing intoxication caused him not to put in Albert Pujols off the bench and to decide to use this genius quote after Pujols was publicly angry at La Russa after the game."If he wants to get upset, he can get upset," La Russa said. "Whatever he wants to do, he can do. It's America. That wasn't the most important thing tonight." Hmm, what was the most important thing? I'm pretty sure it was the game. Tony La Russa, the players and especially the MLB administration have done their best to ruin the Midsummer-Classic, with "making it count" and bullshit musical performances before the game, it's just stupid. The game was supposed to start at 8 and of course, all of the festivities lasted until about 8:45, meaning younger children will maybe be able to watch a few innings, but that's about it. Ridiculous job by Tony "I Wear My Sunglasses at Night" La Russa, as always. Tuesday, July 10

And not a male deer.
The ultimate anti-Mets, Joe "The Legacy" Buck and Tim "Sped" McCarver will be announcing tonight's 78th annual All-Star game. The National League has not won the contest since 1996, 11 years ago for those of you who can't count, or are somehow in Tim McCarver's blood line. Monday, July 9

Along with being the self-proclaimed velvety-smooth voice of baseball,
Joe Buck has proved himself to be the lisp and brie cheese type.
![]() Buck was quoted on ESPNews as saying he would like to see players "shirtless" during the All-Star game on Tuesday. I don't know if it's just the San Francisco atmosphere that is getting to him, but I always thought Buck was just a little fruity. Let's file this one under Broke-Buck Mountain. |
